| What is Katsu? | |
|
Katsu (sometimes written Kuatsu) means to revive and is an ancient Japanese therapy used within Martial Arts circles to resuscitate and relieve pain caused by injury. It uses pressure points and it identifies energy lines as those used in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. By realigning disrupted energy patterns the cause of the pain is taken away and health is restored through pressure and manipulation. |
|
| The
main area identified for such pressure generally is situated either side
of the spine. Generally the whole body receives attention not just the
point of pain and often reflex points on the hands, feet and ears
are also used in treatment. These techniques use adaptations of
traditional points to effectively
reduce the
perception of pain. |
|
| Gentle
stretching and movement of the appropriate
joints gives great
relief to aches and pains of a muscular / skeletal nature. |
|
| Warmth is often applied to areas by either using the chi energy flowing through the practitioner’s hands or by the ancient use of Moxa sticks or oils and liniments. | |
| Relaxation
or meditation techniques are used to
teach the power of positive thinking or “ mind over matter” an
integral part of Oriental theory. Other
focusing techniques
may be used
to change a persons
perspective on their
pain or
problem |
|
| Overall the stimulation and improved circulation gained by the pressure point massage aid in regeneration of damaged tissue and the heightened well-being felt by the recipient aids recovery from pain. | |
